【Nara Prefecture, Uda City】Ryūken Shrine

Ryūken Shrine, surrounded by nature, has a mystical atmosphere. The Okumiya area holds the Ryūken (Dragon’s Hole), where a dragon god is said to reside.

Features

Older than the nearby Murō-ji Temple, the shrine has long been known as a powerful spot, dedicated to the water deity and dragon god, worshiped for rain since ancient times. Its grounds are filled with centuries-old trees, creating a peaceful, awe-inspiring atmosphere.

Recommended Ways to Spend Time and Enjoy Ryuken Shrine

A visit to Ryūken Shrine is best enjoyed with a walk around the grounds. Deeper in the mountains lies the Ryūken (Dragon’s Hole), a place known for purifying the body and mind.

The Renri no Sugi, or entwined cedars, are also notable. These unique trees are believed to be a symbol of marital harmony and family prosperity.
