Morioka Castle Ruins Park is located on the former site of Morioka Castle and is popular for its historical background and natural beauty. Morioka Castle, also known as Kozukata Castle, was the residence of the feudal lord but fell into disrepair and was mostly destroyed around 1874. In 1906, Iwate Prefecture began to develop the area around the ruins of the castle into a park, which was later designated as a national historic site for its beautiful stone walls in the Tohoku region.
In particular, the castle walls and moat remain are partially preserved up to the point where the scale and structure of the castle in the past can be recalled.
